Soon after establishing Unimark International, the firm was appointed by the Metropolitan Transit Authority to design an integrated sign system for the New York Subway. Bob Noorda, who completed the signage of the Milan Metro less than two years before, developed the system that was later codified in the Graphics Standards Manual in collaboration with Massimo Vignelli. A reprint of the manual was published in 2014 enjoying an outstanding success.
