Founded in Milan in 1865, laRinascente is the best-known Italian department stores chain. During 1950s and 1960s, it was one of the major catalysts for good design thanks to an enlightened direction. In 1954 it founded the Compasso d’Oro, the first and most recognized design award in the world. In 1969 the company was sold to FIAT.
