Notes
This is one of the best-known posters in Italy. It was designed to publicize Brandy 84 by Stock, a Trieste-based company producing liquors. Tovaglia intelligently played with the onomatopoeic sound of the word Stock—that in Italian doesn’t mean nothing but reminds the sound of a breaking, while it is actually the surname of the company’s founder, Lionello Stock—by making the sound visible. He visually broke the company’s logotype to pour it into the glass and he colored it in red to increase its visually acoustic impact. The same graphics was used for both posters and magazine announcements.
