Shortly after establishing Unimark International in both Italy and the USA, the firm was appointed by the New York City Transit Authority to design an integrated sign system for the New York City Subway. Bob Noorda, who a couple of years before had already develop the successful sign system for the Milan Metro, was in charge of the signage design. Once the project was completed, the system was codified through a Graphics Standards Manual that he designed with the collaboration of Massimo Vignelli. A reprint of the manual was published in 2014 enjoying an outstanding success. [NMM]
