Notes
Part of the entire corporate identity program designed by Landor. The logotype features a distinctive but legible look that withstood time to this day and also emphasizes the technical nature of Alitalia, through the use of letters featuring clean geometric shapes. Most of all, the letters perfectly matches the beautiful initial “A”, that was also used alone as the company’s mark. Developed starting in 1967, the design was officially implemented in 1969. Both logo and mark – originally designed using Italian flag’s red and green – was often printed in different colours for special purposes (see some examples in the last image).
After a restyling in 2005 by Saatchi & Saatchi that basically slanted the logotype’s letters, a redesign of the entire identity program including the logo was again commissioned to Landor Associates in 2015.
