Notes
Sign system for Parco del Ticino (Park of Ticino Valley) in Lombardy, the first regional park to be founded in Italy.

The system was designed in 1980-82 by Italo Lupi, who chose to differentiate from geometric modular systems that prevailed during 1970s.

He thought that the natural environment of the park required a more friendly visual expression, so asked renowned illustrator Ferenc Pintér to make a series of figurative drawings to be used on all signs. He then overprinted the drawings with red or green bars to emphasise the meaning of the illustrations.

The choice, which was very innovative at that time, revealed to be successful and still represents an original and effective example of good communications in sign system design.

Also, the logotype of the park, set in Akzidenz-Grotesk, the blue bar at the top, and the tight tracked texts set in Times New Roman bold greatly contributed to produce a consistent identity and clear communications.
